Two brothers set their elderly mother on fire after a heated argument over an ongoing property dispute.

The incident took place Sunday, Nov.28, in the Khategaon town of Madhya Pradesh, India.

According to local media reports, the victim, identified as Ghisiya Sahu was alone at her home when her two sons, identified as Sanjay Sahu and Pradeep Sahu came there and engaged in an altercation over a piece of land.

During the heated argument, the brothers allegedly doused their mother with kerosene and set her ablaze.

The suspects then fled the scene, police said.

Neighbors, who heard the woman’s cries, rushed to the home and extinguished the fire.

The elderly victim was then rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening burn injuries.

She is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and is listed to be continuing in critical condition.

The police registered a case of attempted murder and arrested both the suspects.

“The duo has been sent to jail after being produced before the court,” Superintendent of Police (SP), Dewas Shiv Dayal said, the Free Press Journal reported.

An investigation is underway, the official added.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 34-year-old Ohio man allegedly killed his own mother before proceeding to decapitate her body and then set her remains on fire claiming that the "Holy Spirit" ordered him to do so as she was "the devil."

Lionel Justin Gore allegedly killed his adoptive mother Diane Gore, beheaded her, and set her body on fire at their residence in New Matamoras, near the state’s border with West Virginia, on Nov. 5.

“I cut her head off and set her on fire,” Lionel told the officers during interrogation.

He committed the horrific crime in front of his six-year-old nephew.

The boy told the investigators that he saw Lionel "sawing at (Diane's) neck" with a knife. The child added his uncle threw away the first knife and later used a larger one to decapitate her.

The boy said Lionel later set the house on fire and that he had to "crawl out" to escape from the burning residence.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Lionel has previously been arrested more than 25 times for domestic abuse, theft, and assault, among other charges.
