A 16-year-old boy was bludgeoned to death by a group of men on the suspicion of harassing the sister of one of the assailants.

The incident happened Monday, Sept. 6, in Chakan, a town in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

A police official from the Chakan police said, one of the assailants abducted the teen victim from an eatery in the town and took him to an isolated area near the market yard where the remaining suspects were waiting.

Police said the assailants cornered the victim and confronted him on the suspicion of harassment.

"The teenager had a heated argument with the suspect over and harassing the latter’s sister," the officer said, the Times of India reported.

The argument escalated and eventually led to the murder. The assailants reportedly used an iron rod to beat up the teen victim before bludgeoning him to death with a big stone.

"The suspect then assaulted the youth with an iron rod, while others kicked and landed blows on him. They then bludgeoned him to death with a big stone and fled from the spot," he said.

A Chakan police team, led by senior inspector Ashok Rajput arrested one of the suspects.

"During questioning, the arrested suspect revealed that the youth was teasing his friend’s sister for the past few days. His friend abducted the youth and brought him to the spot. Following some heated arguments, they attacked the youth and killed him," the officer said.

Shortly after the confession, the remaining suspects were apprehended by the police.

One of the suspects had reportedly taped the incident on his cellphone. The investigators are examining the footage to identify additional suspects.

The suspects, who have not been publicly identified, were booked under sections 302 (murder), 363, 364 (kidnapping), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the police officer said.

The teen's body has been handed over to his family following an autopsy. The results were being awaited.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.
