The Brooklyn Nets know they need to add role players and there is no better name to consider other than Markieff Morris.
The 32-year-old forward is a person of interest for the Nets, someone who knows what it feels to be an NBA champion. Morris was part of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won it all back in 2020.
He moved to the Miami Heat last NBA season, a stint that almost saw him make the NBA Finals once more. Had it gone as planned, Morris would have been one of a few players to reach the last dance with two different teams in succeeding seasons.
Regardless, no one can deny that Morris can bring something to the Nets. He is known as a tough defender and someone who can be a voice in the locker room.
Despite the presence of stars such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the 6-foot-9 cager has been known to care less, having done the same with the Lakers against the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
According to Marc Stein, the Nets are now in advanced talks with Morris and a deal could be sealed soon.
However, there is another team also interested in the one-time NBA champion – the Philadelphia 76ers.
The thing to note here is that both the Nets and the Sixers can only offer a particular sum to Morris. If it all boils down to that, Philly could have an edge.
Morris hails from Philadelphia so playing there could make sense with money not being much of a problem. Similar to Brooklyn, he would bring the same tenacious defense and be a locker room presence where Joel Embiid and James Harden are also present.
With time winding down, a better picture of where Morris may end up should be known soon. Both the 76ers and the Nets could use someone of his caliber so the question right now is what will the native of Pennsylvania choose?
