A 34-year-old British tourist drowned on his honeymoon after he decided to ignore red flag warnings and go swimming in the rough sea off a Thai beach.

The tragedy occurred on July 14, two days after Ali Mohammed Mian and his new wife, both London residents, arrived on the island of Phuket, southern Thailand.

The couple was staying at the five-star Katathani Phuket Beach Resort.

On the day of the incident, Mian and a Thai man, 55-year-old Surasit Phonglaohaphan, went for a paddle in the rough sea - especially life-threatening during the current monsoon rainy season.

Both men were dragged out away from the shore on the Kata Noi Beach.

Lifeguards performed CPR before paramedics rushed the victims in an ambulance to the Chalong Hospital.

Both Ali and Surasit were pronounced dead shortly after they arrived at the hospital, reports said.

"Our station received notification at 5 pm from rescue volunteers that lifeguards had rescued two drowning tourists from the sea," Lieutenant Colonel Kittipong Nupheng from the Karon district police station said.

"Both of them were unconscious so CPR was performed. One of them had signs of a pulse. Both were taken to the Chalong Hospital but later died."

"We were informed that there was a red warning flag on the beach that the tourists had ignored to go swimming in the sea," Nupheng said.

Authorities said they had informed the British Embassy which is now in contact with Ali's family following the drowning death.

A similar tragedy was reported in Scotland where a newlywed pregnant bride died after falling from a cliff on her honeymoon.

Fawziyah Javed from West Yorkshire, England, was in the early stages of her pregnancy when she fell to her death from a cliff from Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland at around 9 pm on Sept.2, 2021.

Officials confirmed that a 27-year-old man had been arrested as part of the police probe into her death, which was being treated suspiciously.
