Mercedes-Benz is very quick this weekend, achieving lap times that would otherwise have been very impressive if it weren't for the recent controversial secret tire test scandal. British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton delivered exactly what the UK Formula 1 fans wanted-- a hometown pole position. Ultimately, Lewis Hamilton's fastest Q3 session lap was a blistering 1 minute 29.607 seconds, 0.452 seconds quicker than teammate Nico Rosberg. What's more, Lewis Hamilton is the only driver to crack below 1 minute 30 seconds.
Silverstone marks the second pole position of the 2013 season and the 28th pole of his career. A very decisive hit rate, the Mercedes cars have snatched five pole positions and locked out the front-row three times this season.
The Red Bull team is close behind as reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel managed his personal fastest of 1 minute 30.211 seconds. Red Bull teammate Mark Webber qualified fourth.
Paul di Resta delivered a standout performance when he managed to take his Force India to 5th place, ahead of Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo. However, Paul Di Resta was eventually disqualified when his car was found to be 1.5 kg underweight. The Scot will start at the back of the grid while sixth place qualifier Daniel Ricciardo gets pushed up one spot.
Adrian Sutil qualified sixth, ahead of Lotus Renault's Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen. Finally, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso qualifies tenth.
Alonso's teammate Felipe Massa joins the track between Jenson Button at 11th and McLaren teammate Sergio Perez down in 14th. Jean-erec Vergne qualified 13th.
