A British couple whose lifeless bodies were found on Sunday in their countryside home in Haute-Garonne in Occitanie, southwest France is now the subject of an open investigation. The couple’s names have not been disclosed however a public prosecutor from Saint-Gaudens said the case showed no evidence of a third party involvement.

According to The Sun, local prosecutor Christophe Amunzateguy said investigators determined the woman had been dead for some days and was found with a rope around her neck. "Wounds were also found on her body – there were signs of strangulation and blows,” the prosecutor said.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the dead body of the woman’s husband in the outhouse. He was hung and seemed to have died by suicide. A note that was left suggested they were going through certain financial difficulties. Amunzanteguy said the couple had a project lined up and had planned to open a guesthouse however this did not push through because of financial constraints.

Police reports said friends of the couple decided to pay a visit to the pair after they hadn't heard from them for a few days and were concerned for the couple’s well-being.

No further details on the case have been disclosed at this stage, it is pending investigation. An autopsy has been ordered and will be carried out this week to determine the official cause of both the deaths.

Police confirmed the country home was purchased by the couple in early 2021. They had wanted to turn the property into a bed and breakfast to take advantage of the scenic location in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Toulouse. The home, which is situated in the town of Boudrac, has a population of about 130 residents.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident in the suburbs of Paris, French Twitter users took to the social media platform to post photos of a mysterious glowing object spotted above Le Mans last Thursday. Some comments described it as a round object with a cloud around it while others even joked it was a hologram of Jean-Luc Mélenchon returning to his home planet after failing to qualify to run in this year’s presidential election. The left-wing is known to use holograms in its campaign meetings.

But quick to dispel talks of alien invasions, Eric Lagadec - head of the French society of astronomy and astrophysics confirmed the sighting as being part of a rocket from the US company SpaceX. The cloud was gas emissions from the engine brake meant to bring the object out of orbit to prevent it from causing space litter and instead allow it to disintegrate into the atmosphere.

SpaceX had launched a rocket on the same day the object was spotted in France and was also confirmed by Spanish space website Frontera Espacial based on similar reports that were seen over Spain.
