Dominic Cumming, Chief Advisor of Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has been on the receiving end of the mass anti-racism protests taking place in the U.K., in support of the US demonstrations that took off after George Floyd wrongful death at the hands of Minneapolis police officials.

A group of people gathered outside Dominic Cummings home in London on June 4, chanting “Black Lives Matter” in a “die-in” protests in protest against the way the Government was handling the coronavirus pandemic. As the wore masks and observed the current social distancing measures in place, they peacefully protested against the recent neglect of the lockdown rules by Cummings when he relocated to Durham and even drove to Barnard Castle.

In Europe, Britain has been hit the hardest by coronavirus pandemic and has the highest death toll. And as per research conducted, it was found that black and Asian people in England are 50% more prone to die after contracting COVID-19.

Thus, when Cummings flouted the lockdown, he put the already stigmatized black population at more risk. “Over 50,000 dead while you’re playing king of the castle,” read one of the signs during the protest, while many chanted “Black Lives Matter” and denounced how the government has been handling the pandemic.

“It’s insulting to hear Boris Johnson say we should ‘move on’,” said one of the protestors. “The lack of remorse, not just for Cummings’ disregard for the rules but for the thousands of preventable deaths is a disgrace.”

The protesters laid down their request to the government, which involves the immediate firing of Cummings and the implementation of a pandemic-tackling strategy based on the recommendations by the WHO.

Many doctors under the U.K. National Health Service have also rallied against Cummings, with Dr. Dominic Pimenta's resignation in protest against Boris Johnson’s refusal to fire Cummings and the continued support he has from the ministers.

Pimenta fears that the chief advisor of the PM flouting restrictions will set a bad precedent and encourage others to not take the regulations seriously, which may in turn trigger a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
