Last Month "Family Guy" rocked everyone's world when they killed off a major character from the Griffin family. Many people were shocked and angry when beloved Dog Brian Griffin was suddenly killed off Fox's hit-show. The faithful dog had been with the show since it aired and was voiced by creator Seth MacFarlane. Since the episode "Life of Brian" aired, Fox and the creators have been under fire for killing off the major character. And it hasn't helped that much of the news surrounding the event has not been good. Many are reporting that the show will not be bringing Brian back to the show and that newcomer Vinnie voiced by "Sopranos" actor Paul Sorico.
There are many reasons for Brian's departure. Executive producer spoke with E! News online and said it was "we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up." The idea to kill off a major character was already in the works but the producer thought it would be more natural to lose a pet rather than a child or parent. It was also mentioned that MacFarlane might just have been tired of "Family Guy" and wanted a more diminished role to focus on new projects. "Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended," MacFarlane said. "I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series. I talk to the fans and in a way I'm kind of secretly hoping for them to say we're done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill... but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility."
It appears the "Family Guy" writers were listening to the outcry from fans who didn't like the decision to kill Brian. Entertainment Weekly reports that Brian is set to return to the cast full time starting Dec. 15. While Fox declined to comment on the speculation, the site has discovered that an episode coming next fall has Brian falling in love with a character played by Maya Rudolph, unless the episode takes place in the afterlife it appears that Brian will be back on "Family Guy." The official description for the episode "Christmas Guy" reads: "Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas."
