A cross complaint countersuit filed by Angelina Jolie on Tuesday went into detail regarding the reported abusive behavior that her ex-husband Brad Pitt engaged with towards their children, accusations which Pitt denies.
The cross complaint came in relation to another lawsuit between the couple regarding the French winery Château Miraval which Jolie had co-owned with Pitt, where he reportedly attempted to make her sign a nondisclosure agreement in exchange for him buying up her share of the winery, according to the New York Times.
Jolie’s share of the winery, which prompted the lawsuit Pitt filed against her, was sold to Tenute del Mondo without Pitt’s consent. Jolie has stated that she felt uncomfortable owning a liquor brand due to Pitt’s history of alcoholism, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Among the alleged behavior illustrated in the complaint was the September 2016 incident that prompted Jolie to file a divorce against Pitt. The two reportedly got into an argument because Pitt believed that Jolie was “too deferential” to their six children, allegedly yelling at her in the airplane bathroom, Vanity Fair reported.
“Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the filing said. “Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”
When one of the children, who was not specifically identified in the suit, attempted to defend Jolie from Pitt’s alleged abuse, “Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face” while he allegedly “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.”
“Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened,” the filing said.
The FBI investigation on the case in 2016 found that Pitt was not “physically abusive” to his children during the incident. Despite this, Jolie highlighted the section that showed that they had “the government had probable cause to charge Pitt with a federal crime for his conduct that day.”
Pitt has denied the accusation through a statement with his attorney.
“Brad has owned everything he's responsible for from day one — unlike the other side — but he's not going to own [up to] anything he didn't do,” the statement said. “Thankfully, the various public authorities the other side has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions. Brad will continue to respond in court as he has consistently done.”
