Errol Spence Jr. successfully returned to the boxing ring after pulling off a unanimous decision win over Danny Garcia at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Returning since suffering a serious car accident in 2019, the attention now shifts to who the IBF, WBC welterweight world champion would face next.
There were a lot of notable names who congratulated Spence when he won over Garcia. That includes the Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao. However, there was an interesting spectator at ringside in his return fight – Terence Crawford.
The presence of the 33-year-old fighter alone raised speculation that he could next in line for Spence. However, the fighter from Long Island New York was clueless about why “Bud” was at ringside. Also, Spence said he was not interested in face Crawford next, Boxingscene reported.
“I probably wouldn’t go to none of his fights, so I’m not worried about Terence Crawford. Like I said, I’m gonna enjoy my time with my kids and chill out, and just reflect on this year-and-a-half that, you know, I came back and, you know, we’re gonna move on to the summertime and see who I fight. So, we’ll see. I’ve gotta talk to my manager, Al Haymon, and we’ll go from there,” Spence stated.
Curiously, Crawford also mentioned recently that a fight with Spence and is not important. He says that a fight with the 30-year-old returning fighter is not important to him and considers him irrelevant as far as his legacy is concerned.
“[A fight against Spence Jr. is] not that important. I keep telling everybody, I don't need Errol Spence for my legacy. I don't know why people make it seem that I need Errol Spence. He needs me. I don't need him,” Crawford said.
Though anything can happen with the hate building between the two pugs, Spence has some other names in mind. That list includes Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman. However, Spence has no interest in facing “One Time,” meaning Pacquiao could be next in line.
A clearer picture of who Spence may face next should crop up moving forward. For now, he is savoring his successful return to the ring and the coming holidays.
