The mother of the Boston bombing suspects spoke to the oldest of the two brothers minutes before he was shot dead in a violent standoff with police in the streets of Watertown, Mass.

Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, mother of Tamerlan and Dzhorkhar Tsarnaev, told ABC News that her eldest son called her Friday morning to alert her that police were chasing him and his little brother.

"The police, they have started shooting at us, they are chasing us," said Tsarnaeva.

The conversation ended when Tamerlan said "Mama, I love you."

Tsarnaeva said she got scared and started to cry, and confirmed that Dzhorkhar was with him.

Tsarnaeva, who resides in the Russian republic of Dagestan, said that her sons would call her every day in the last few days. She recalled their last conversation as especially touching and tender. "He said he got a private phone call from the FBI and that he was under suspicion. He hung up and said, 'If you need me, you'll find me.'"

When she raised concerns over their safety, Tamerlan just shrugged them off, Tsarnaeva said. "Mama, why are you worrying?" he said, according to his mother.

This is not the first time Tamerlan's parents have been concerned with their son's problems with the law. Anzor Tsarnaev said that his eldest had been followed by the FBI for five years and that he believed the bureau was onto him.

Channel 4 News suggested that, while unlikely that the FBI had called the suspect to accuse him, it was perhaps the way Tamerlan decided to warn his parents of what was coming.

The Tsarnaevs are planning a trip to the U.S. to visit 19-year-old Dzhorkhar, who was captured Friday. Tsarnaeva said that she fears the teenager will face death penalty.

"I lost two sons," she said in between tears. "My family is in the dirt."
