UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is third-time lucky—and he’s finally ready to move things up in matrimony with fiancée, Carrie Symonds. Their happy news comes after more than a year-long wait since their engagement in 2019. Speculations ran amok about Johnson’s special day around the corner after it was learned that Johnson and Symonds were sending out save-the-date cards to family and friends for their Big Day, which is likely to be held in July 2022. While the couple had initially decided to wed a lot earlier, the pandemic wreaked havoc on their plans.
Johnson was married to Allegra Mostyn-Owen for six years, before his relationship with Marina Wheeler. Symonds’ and Johnson’s son, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, was born in April 2020. They agreed to add Nicholas to their child’s middle name as a tribute to the two doctors who treated Johnson while he battling coronavirus and was hospitalized for the same. Johnson and Symonds were reportedly living together in Downing Street a long time before their marriage plans materialized, as cited in The Guardian.
However, a lot of important details, such as the location and the like are yet to be decided. While the prime minister’s Buckinghamshire residence, Chequers, is pegged as one of the venues that are likely to be zeroed in on; Port Lympne Safari Park in Kent is another strong possibility, given that Symonds works for the conservation charity. Rumors are rife that an idyllic countryside wedding in Italy could be on the cards as well where some of Symonds’ closest pals and relatives stay.
“It would be nice for Chequers to be in the news for happy reasons for once,” stated a source to The Sun, given how the Prime Minister was in the eye of the storm for his lavish getaway on the Caribbean Island of Mustique—where he proposed to his now-fiancée Symonds. The secret holiday came under the scrutiny of parliamentary standards commissioner, Kathryn Stone, who announced her probe pertaining to a possible breach of the MPs’ code of conduct over the funding of the exotic 10-day holiday.
Johnson and Symonds are 23 years apart, with the Prime Minister being 56 years while Symonds is 33. Johnson’s wedding plans to Symonds clashed with the news of her pregnancy— they got engaged to be married in February last year. The developments were followed by Johnson’s official divorce from second wife Wheeler, with whom he shares four kids—two daughters and two sons.
The Prime Minister’s team is yet to comment on the developments.
