Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra has been held by Mumbai Police in a case connected to pornography. Kundra has been booked under various Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections including publicly exhibiting or circulating obscene books or literature.
According to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Hemant Nagrale, there was a case registered with Crime Branch Mumbai in February this year about the making of pornographic films and releasing them on apps, reported The Times Of India. Police arrested Kundra in this case on Monday as he appears to be the "key conspirator of this." Nagrale also shared that the police have sufficient evidence regarding it and investigation is on.
When the Mumbai crime branch's Property Cell registered an FIR in February related to the case, nine people were arrested, according to Indian Express. Some of the accused were owners of streaming sites where the porn films were available to viewers after paying a subscription fee. Police said that it was during the interrogation of the accused that Kundra’s name popped up. His name came up in connection with his links to one of the companies involved in streaming such films.
According to the police, women were lured into featuring in pornographic movies with promises of bagging roles in digital series.
Earlier this year, model-actress Poonam Pandey filed a case against Kundra and his associates, claiming that they have been illegally using her work despite termination of contract between them, reported The Times Of India.
Pandey joined hands with Kundra's company for an app named after her in March 2019. She said that they had agreed upon a certain percentage of the revenue generated by the app to be given to her. But when she realised there were certain discrepancies in revenue sharing, she decided to end the contract.
But then, she claimed that they continued to post her pictures and videos on the app. She also claimed that they leaked her personal mobile number along with messages like "Call me now as I am free to talk" on the app. Soon, she started getting numerous calls at odd hours, asking her for explicit services.
Shetty tied the knot with Kundra in 2009 and they welcomed their son, Viaan Raj Kundra, in 2012. In 2020, they were blessed with their second child -- a daughter named Samisha via surrogacy.
