BMW announces the grand opening of its first i Store on London's Park Lane. Showcasing a new line of BMW vehicles dedicated to electric mobility and environmental sustainability, the BMW i Store's debut in the city of London emphasizes the demand for eco-consciousness in major cities from around the world as we face denser population and the heavy consumption of resources.
From dexigner.com, BMW Board of Management member Ian Robertson expressed, "BMW i Park Lane marks a completely new approach. It gives people a perfect opportunity to learn more about electromobility and get close to our future electric and plug-in hybrid BMW i vehicles. This is a further demonstration of our commitment to electromobility."
Establishing itself as a friendly and customer oriented brand, the Park Lane BMW i Store will also have BMW 'Product Genius' personnel on hand that will share information and provide answers to questions asked by patrons that visit the floor.
Doing its part to improve quality of life, the BMW i3 concept boasts zero local emissions as its zippy electric motor produces 125 kW, or 170-hp, and 250 Newton meters, or 170 lb-ft of torque. Respectable performance, the i3 concept sprints from 0-to-60 mph in less than 8 seconds, motivating all the way to the top speed of 93 mph.
Introducing the body-on-frame LifeDrive architecture, the i3 concept is constructed by two independent aluminum modules joined horizontally, incorporating the drive system, battery, chassis, as well as structural and crash functions. The high-strength passenger cell uses lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), the material's first mass production application for a passenger car.
Lightweight, strong, and efficient, the i3 concept is coddling as well. The i3 Concept offers a dashboard furnished with eucalyptus wood originating from local forests in Europe. Leathers are treated with tanning agents extracted from the leaves of olive trees.
A new territory for BMW, its first full-electric line of vehicles will release by late 2013. Expect to see the BMW i8 coupe arrive in 2014.
