A leader in the Black Lives Matter movement called for "Black vigilantes" following Daniel Penny's acquittal of a homicide charge after choking and killing Jordan Neely on New York City subway in May 2023.
"We need some Black vigilantes. People want to jump up and choke us? And kill us for being loud? How about we do the same when they attempt to oppress us," Hawk Newsome said in a clip released after the verdict was revealed on Monday.
"I'm tired," he added.
Hawk Newsome, founder of BLM of Greater New York, reacts to Penny verdict by advocating for retaliation against white people:

An all-white jury found Penny, 26, not guilty of criminally negligent homicide after he held Neely in a chokehold for six minutes on May 1, 2023, ABC News reported.
Neely, 30, was a Black man experiencing homelessness and had a history of mental illness when the fatal incident occurred. At the time, he was allegedly asking subway passengers for food and water while blocking them from exiting the train when he was killed.
