Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius Alleged to have Shot and Killed Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in South Africa Thursday, Charged With Murder

Oscar Pistorius, Olympic track runner from South Africa, allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend early Thursday morning.

The girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, was allegedly trying to surprise her boyfriend by going to his house early that morning. The runner confused Steenkamp for an intruder and shot her. According to a police spokeswoman, Captain Sarah Mcira, Steenkamp was shot in the arm and head with a 9mm pistol. She was killed on the spot.

Steenkamp was a law graduate, television presenter and model. The two had been together for only a couple of months. Though according to her agent, Sarit Tomlinson, their relationship was "really healthy." Steenkamp had just tweeted her excitement for Feb. 14 the night before.

Steenkamp was a model for Avon in South Africa a few years ago and will be in an upcoming Survivor-style reality show, "Tropika Island of Treasure," that has yet to air.

It is reported that Pistorious slept with his 9mm pistol nearby, with also a machine gun in his house. Even though parts of South Africa have been known to be dangerous, the athlete lived in a gated community.
