Fans have known for the longest time that James Spader’s character, Raymond “Red” Reddington, is almost always one step ahead of the game and has a backup plan or two in place. But it seems that even a brilliant mastermind such as Red will eventually run out of luck. In the upcoming Episode 11 of Season 6 of “The Blacklist,” Red seems to be running out of options and faces the very real possibility of dying.
Ironically, the reason for his current dilemma is Red himself. In the previous episode titled “The Cryptobanker,” Red pleaded guilty to many charges leveled against him. It’s not that he was feeling particularly honest at that time. It’s just that he was hatching a secret plan of bolting out of jail, so he probably thought nothing about the consequences of his admission.
And it would have been the perfect escape plan. He just failed to mention it to Liz, whose timely arrival to the prison facility inadvertently caused his flawless plans to come crashing down. Red, disguised as the prison warden, was caught by security personnel just as he was about to walk out of prison.
These events lead to the headache he will be facing in the coming episode titled “Bastien Moreau.” It seems that he finally ran out of backup plans this time and had to rely on Liz to get him out of his predicament.
In the brief trailer released, Red is heard talking to Liz. “I need your help,” Red told Liz. “I’m gonna save your life,” Liz assured him. However, the video also shows a brief footage of Red inside what appears to be the chamber where the lethal injection will be taking place. Of course, the question everyone is asking is, will Liz’s help arrive in time to save Red’s life?
Of course, it’s totally hard to imagine seeing the show limping on without Reddington. A big factor that could help him narrowly avoid the injection is the mysterious man in Cairo, which he already discussed with Liz. In fact, show creator and EP Jon Bokenkamp already revealed the importance of the man in Cairo.
“The man in Cairo represents maybe the last lifeline he might have, but even just calling him ‘the man in Cairo’ — we know so little about him and who this person is, how he might be able to help,” Bokenkamp told TV Line. “Liz’s desperation is coming from a genuine place because they’re out of time. People always say that a certain location is a character, and the clock is definitely a character in this next episode because they are quite literally out of time.”
“The Blacklist” Season 6 Episode 11 will air on Friday. Stay tuned for more updates on your favorite shows.
