An Indian politician and Member of Parliament has made a bizarre statement outrageously claiming that drinking cow urine saved her from Covid.

Pragya Singh Thakur, a BJP politician representing the Indian city of Bhopal, said there was scientific research to back up that cow urine "cures all infectious diseases".

"'Gau-mutra ark' (cow urine extract) of a desi cow keeps us away from lung infection. I am in a lot of trouble ((health issues) but take the 'gaumutra ark' every day. After this, I am not supposed to take any other medicine for coronavirus. I am not affected by coronavirus infection. I believe God will keep me protected as I am using this medicine of 'gaumutra ark'," PTI quoted the Bhopal MP as saying.

"So many researchers say cow urine is an antibiotic," she added.

"After research claims, we found that drinking cow urine cures all infectious diseases."

"No Covid patient’s health will worsen because of drinking cow urine."

"I wish health to everyone and this is why I recommend it."

"I want all to be safe like me – I have not prescribed anything unresearched like pig or bull’s urine."

"If someone wants to take it they can come to me and I shall prescribe the required dose of urine that is needed," she added.

Thakur says the urine should be collected from indigenous cows who have only eaten forest grass. The urine should then be filtered with a piece of cotton cloth, she said.

She claims the study was done by scientists in Germany. Thakur was grilled for potentially endangering lives with her advice after it was revealed that her bonkers claims are not supported in any widely accepted research.

Senior Congress leader, PC Sharma wrote a letter to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and the National Health Mission to scientifically prove Thakur's claims.

"She stated that Gau-mutra (cow urine) cures the infection of lungs and the COVID-19. Her words must be credible," he said, the Indian Express reported.

According to the senior leader, Thakur had addressed a function and made claims that the cow urine extract offers protection against lung infections and coronavirus.

"Now the pandemic is spread in villages," he said.
