A keyword mix up later turned hoax alleged that Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late environmental crusader of "Crocodile Hunter" fame Steve Irwin, had died. The claim began purely by coincidence as a "trend hiccup" picked up keywords surrounding Steve Irwin and his daughter and strung them together in an unreleated, untrue phrase that began trending on MSN's biggest movers list, E! Online reported.
The issue likely started when Bindi's, 14, new film "Return from Nim's Island," began gaining popularity and generating a high amount of Internet searches. Searchers originally began searching for "Steve Irwin's daughter" as opposed to her actual name. Couple that with ongoing searches about Steve's death, and the Internet eventually spat out "Steve Irwin daughter dead," sparking confusion and Internet users crying foul, Yahoo News reported.
This later resulted in a handful of fake news stories describing extravagant scenarios that caused the teen's "death." As for Bindi, however, she is in good health and continues following her father's legacy as a wildlife conservationist. She was recently in Hong Kong doing an interview.
