The biggest music stars “in the Planet,” as said by Giuliana Rancic at the E!’s Red Carpet coverage, shined at the Billboard Music Awards 2015. The ceremony, produced by Dick Clark Productions, aired live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17 on ABC.

Topping the list of finalists, who are based on album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring, and social-media interactions, were Taylor Swift with 14 entries, Sam Smith (13), Iggy Azalea (12), and Meghan Trainor (9).

Hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen, the event was full of surprises, kick-ass performances, and the awaited world premiere of Taylor Swift’s new video “Bad Blood,” which kicked off the night with a full dose of female power.

Following the video premiere, the stage was graced by one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Van Halen, who delivered the first performance of the night. Fall Out Boy performed their tribute song to Uma Thurman featuring Wiz Khalifa. Next on stage was Nick Jonas performing his hit single “Jealous,” which he confessed to be about his current girlfriend Olivia Culpo. Host Chrissy Teigen then announced the presence of her husband John Legend on stage, performing next to one of the night’s top finalists, Meghan Trainor.

Among the biggest moments of the night were: Mariah Carey’s return to the stage of the Billboard Music Awards after 17 years of absence. Paul Walker was then honored with “See You Again” performed by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. The cast of “Empire” rocked the stage at an award ceremony for the first time. The world premiere of “Pretty Girls,” performed by Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears. Later on, Imagine Dragons performed “Stand by Me,” paying tribute to singer and composer Ben E. King.

Hozier took us to church. B.B. King was remembered, and Lucille, his guitar, made a special appearance on stage. Little Big Town, who performed next to Faith Hill, represented country music on the stage of the BBMAs. The temperature rose when Pitbull and Chris Brown showed off their dance moves during their performance of “Fun.” The heat rapidly turned into heartbreak with Ed Sheeran’s performance of “Bloodstream.”

KIA presented Tori Kelly as “The one to watch.” Simple Minds celebrated the 30th anniversary of the “Breakfast Club” with their performance of “Don’t you forget about me.” Kelly Clarkson owned the stage despite the frequent critiques about her weight gain.

And we leave you with, WTF was up with that Kanye West perfomance?
