Former President Bill Clinton joined Twitter this week, meaning he will only have 140 characters with which to define "is." In an appearance on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report," host Stephen Colbert assisted the Democrat heavyweight in setting up his own Twitter feed.
Colbert's "future personal friend" Bill Clinton's Twitter feed still only has the first tweet sent by Colbert on-air: "Just spent amazing time with Colbert! Is he sane? He is cool!" Bill Clinton said he is Facebook user, but never got around to setting up a Twitter feed. Clinton offered no more specifics as to why he, who has never been at a loss for something to say, hadn't joined Twitter before, unlike his host, a common sight on social media.
Interestingly, Clinton and Colbert settled on creating the Twitter handle @PrezBillyJeff, shorthand for the president's full name, William Jefferson Clinton. The Twitter handle @PresidentClinton was already taken, which is odd since the last man who could possibly have used that handle somewhat appropriately appropriately, DeWitt Clinton, a prominent New York governor who unsuccessfully ran for chief executive against James Madison, died almost 200 years ago, well before the age of the Internet.
