Beyonce has released the music video of her new song “Spirit” for movie “The Lion King.”
The track is part of a 14-song album called “The Lion King: The Gift” that features several African singers and dancers.
“The Lion King” is a 2019 live-action remake of Disney’s 1994 animation of the same title. It is also one of the most anticipated live-action films of this year following a series of live-action remakes of classic Disney films in the previous years.
The video was premiered as part of an ABC hour-long primetime special called “The Lion King: Can You Feel the Love Tonight with Robin Roberts.”
While the film already has a full-length original soundtrack, Beyonce created “The Gift” as a standalone collection to convey her sentiments.
In the one-hour ABC special, Beyonce revealed the message behind the song.
“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa,” she said to ABC News.
“I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it.”
The singer described the track as a "new genre" of music made from authentic African music and incredible new sounds with producers from America.
The song “Spirit” can be heard in the background of a teaser released on the film’s Twitter page.
Beyonce’s tracks in “The Gift” collection include “Bigger”; “Find Your Way Back (Circle of Life)”; “The Nile” with Kendrick Lamar; “Mood 4 Eva” with JAY-Z and Childish Gambino; “Otherside”; “Already” with Shatta Wale; and “Spirit.”
She shares the track collection with the following artists: Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Salatiel, Pharrell, Blue Ivy Carter, SAINt JHN, WizKid, Tiwa Savage, Tierra Whack, Busiswa, Yemi Alade, and Moonchild Sanelly, 070 Shake and Jessie Reyez.
The song “Spirit” is also a part of the original soundtrack of the 2019 film that was dropped last week. In the film, Beyonce shares her voice to Nala, the best friend and love interest of the main character, Simba. She is also an executive producer of the film.
The singer worked with Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen on their own take of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
The film hits United States theaters on July 18. “The Lion King: The Gift” is set for release in the U.S. on July 19.
