Bethany Hamilton announced on her Facebook page and her official website that she is engaged to boyfriend of 1-year Adam. No last name was given for the man that stole the heart of Bethany Hamilton.
Grindtv.com says that Hamilton and Adam met at their church on Kauai. Bethany Hamilton was born and raised on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai in 1990. The 20-year-old has been a professional surfer since 2007.
Bethany Hamilton caught the attention of the world 10 years ago after losing her left arm to a shark. The 13-year-old surfer became a symbol of inspiration and hope for refusing to give up after her arm was taken. Bethany Hamilton had her story told in the 2011 movie "Soul Surfer" staring AnnaSophia Robb.
Only a month after her arm was taken by a tiger shark, Bethany Hamilton was back in the water pursuing her dream of becoming a professional surfer, according to her official website.
On May 2, Bethany Hamilton posted to her Facebook wall, "One year ago today, I met an amazing man, now we will spend the rest of our lives together. I am so excited! I love you Adam!"
Friends and fans on Hamilton's Facebook left messages of congratulations for the newly engaged couple.
Adam posted a blog to Hamilton's website explaining how the couple met and how he popped the question. In the blog Adam writes,
"Bethany and I met through mutual friends right away I could tell she was pretty cool...I felt in my heart I would like to pursue a relationship with her."
Adam says when he asked Bethany Hamilton if she would like to be more than friends she accidently replied "I do."
Adam and Bethany Hamilton share a mutual love of God. Adam says in his blog that it was God who brought him and Bethany together.
Adam closes out his blog with a special note just for his bride-to-be,
"Bethany I am so excited for our adventure for the rest of our lives. I promise to respect you...and to always love you through the hard times and to celebrate with you in all the awesome times. I love you."
According to grindtv.com Bethany Hamilton and her fiancé Adam are planning for a summer wedding, but no official date has been set.
In her blog, Hamilton wrote about her fiancé saying,
"I know Adam and I are right for each other and that God has us together for Him. Neither of us is perfect, but in my eyes Adam is just right and I'm thankful to have someone so perfectly perfect to share life with as one."
