A car bomb reportedly exploded in the proximity of a hospital in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi. Abdel Salam al Barghathi, a security official told the Associated Press that thirteen people have been wounded and an estimated 9 people have been killed after the bomb exploded outside a bakery. The bakery is reportedly close to Benghazi's main hospital.
The report of the bombing comes at a time when the United States is investigating the events leading up to the killing of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and a number of others at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
Claims against the Secretary of State at the time, Hillary Rodham Clinton, arose during a recent Congressional hearing, when the 'number two' in Benghazi, Gregory Hicks, said he was reprimanded for reportedly disagreeing with the views put forward by UN Ambassador Susan Rice and others. A number of legislators in Washington are mulling over how to proceed with the investigation.
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, called the situation "bigger than Watergate," and Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla, said "the I-word (impeachment)" may be added to the discussion soon. On the other hand, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, dismissed the notion contemplated by some, including Inhofe, that President Barack Obama has the possibility of being impeached over the alleged cover-up of the events leading up to the Benghazi consulate's attack.
"I will even give the president the benefit of the doubt on some of these things," McCain said, telling ABC's Martha Raddatz that Clinton likely "had a role" in the alleged cover-up, but that a "select committee" of legislators should officially investigate the September 11, 2012 attack before any accusations can be substantiated.
