Beloved TV Personality Dies, Then Posts Own Obituary on Social Media: 'I Have Left the Building'

A beloved TV host in Australia left her fans know she had "left the building" after in a heartbreaking, posthumous social media post.

Almost 3 years after being diagnosed with a motor neuron disease (MND), Australian TV host Fiona MacDonald decided to be admitted to a hospital for end of life palliative care after ceasing all medical support. The post she wrote announcing her own demise was shared to her Instagram account by her sister.

"Farewell my friends. My sister Kylie is posting this because I have left the building - Hopefully I'm looking down from a cloud," wrote MacDonald. "Last night brought an end to a very tough few months. Was very peaceful the boys and Kylie stayed with me to say goodbye. While I've never wanted to die, the thought of leaving my tortured body was a relief."

A popular TV show host, MacDonald was best known for hosting children's TV series Wombat from 1983 and 1984, and later hosting gameshow It's a Knockout.

Since being diagnosed with MND, MacDonald raised over $223,000 AUD (almost $153,000 USD) through I Am Making A Difference.

"So let's not call it goodbye as I hope to see you again on the other side. Until then: "May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rain fall softly upon your fields until we meet again, And may God hold you in the hollow of His hand."" MacDonald continued in the caption of her post. "I carry your love and laughter with me and hope you'll remember mine."
