Shirley Curry announcing her retirement from gaming. YouTube

In a tearjerking farewell YouTube vlog, Shirley Curry, better known in the gaming community as "Skyrim Grandma," announced she was officially retiring from posting video game footage to the internet.

The 88-year-old opened by wishing her followers -- whom she refers to as her "grandkids" -- a good morning, before announcing her fateful decision to cease publishing gaming videos after more than a decade on the site.

Curry shared with her whopping 1.3 million YouTube subscribers that the call was prompted, in part, by her upcoming eye surgery, which will require four weeks of recovery. She also said making gaming videos wasn't fun anymore.

"I don't think you're going to like it either but I can't help it," Curry said. "I'm old and I'm tired, and I don't feel like doing much anymore."

Curry said she started uploading vlogs in 2015 because it was fun, but now she prefers to veg out in bed.

"Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, and I'm so comfy in bed...I think 'oh my goodness, I've been here all night long and I'd love to just stay here, snuggled up all day long," Curry said. "Isn't that terrible? It's a sign I'm getting old."

Instead of posting to YouTube, after Curry recovers from her eye surgery, she's going to make a quilt "she's been wanting to make for a long time."

Although she won't be uploading gaming videos, Curry said she's not stepping away from YouTube entirely. She will give updates on her quilt, if her audience is interested, as well as book reviews and "chapter by chapter" readings of a story she hopes to write.

"Bye bye grandkids. All of you be good, and I'll talk to you later," Curry said before signing off.

Her video quickly garnered more than 3,000 comments from supporters. Many wished her good luck with her upcoming surgery and thanked her for sharing her world with them.

"We will miss you so much, but are left with a wonderful digital library of your content to entertain us endlessly," the user wrote. "You have been a beacon of light and joy for me and many others over the years. Logging in and seeing your face pop up in my sub box was always the highlight of my day/ week. Thank you for the hard work you've put in to entertaining us all <3"
