Thanks to an impressive 45-10 thumping of the Tennessee Volunteers over the weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide remain the top team in the polls as they currently own the No. 1 ranking in the October 27 edition of the BCS Standings. Crusing to a perfect 8-0 record, the Tide have only been tested once this season. That challege game in a 49-42 victory over Johnny Manziel and then No. 6 ranked Texas A&M. The 42 points Alabama surrendered was the highest they've given up in one game this season, with the team only giving up a total of 36 points in the other seven victories while posting two shutouts. While following Alabama this season has surely been entertaining, the race for the No. 2 position in the BCS Standings is also noteworthy since multiple teams have their sights set on a potential championship showdown with the two-time defending champion Crimson Tide.
Even after an impressive thumping of North Carolina State, Florida State slid to No. 3 in the poll since more points were given to Oregon in their win over No. 12 UCLA. With the Ducks now sitting in the No. 2 spot and FSU No. 3, the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to add victories as they look to move up from No. 4. Dating back to last season - the team's first under head coach Urban Meyer - the OSU Buckeyes have won twenty-straight regular season games, solidifying themselves as one of the top teams in the country even though they haven't had the opportunity to display their talents in a BCS game with Meyer as coach. That could change however if OSU continues to win ballgames while also getting some help from the teams in front of them in the standings.
The only one-loss team in the Top 5 of the updated BCS Poll is Stanford. The Cardinal remain one of the best team's in the nation with a 7-1 record and even with a tough 27-21 loss to Pac-12 rival Utah, David Shaw's Cardinal team appears poised for another strong finish and possible trip to a BCS Bowl Game. Stanford's next game - a home tilt with No. 2 Oregon on November 7 - will certainly have a big impact on the BCS Standings especially if the Cardinal are able to pull out the win. Stanford cost Oregon a possible trip to the championship game last season with an overtime win in Eugene, Oregon and as they sit in the No. 5 spot, the Cardinal are certainly ready for another showdown with one of the most balanced team's in the country.
