The 2013-2014 Barclays Premier League season is comfortably underway and thanks to a plethora of exciting and memorable moments through the first few weeks of the season, fans of soccer are certainly excited about the remainder of a long year. Each of the 20 clubs in the Premier League has completed 3 full matches and the race at the top of the standings is tight. Liverpool is off to a perfect start thanks to strong defense and although they have a two point advantage over Chelsea in the early standings, there is still way to much soccer to be played before true opinions can be formed. Manchester City, Arsenal, Stoke City and Tottenham currently sit 3 points behind The Reds while Manchester United, West Ham and four other clubs rest 5 points back of the leader.
Arsenal earned its 6 points thanks to impressive early season victories. Since opening the season with a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa, Arsene Wenger's crew has gone on to defeat Fulham and Tottenham, two clubs that finished in the Top 12 of last season's Premier League final standings. While the Gunners can certainly be happy about winning 2 of 3 to start their campaign a year removed from a fourth place league finish, Sunderland has struggled out of the gates, only accumulating 1 point.
The Black Cats have dropped decisions to Fulham (1-0) and Crystal Palace (3-1) with their best performance resulting in a 1-1 draw with Southampton back on August 24. With a big opponent lying ahead in the form of the Arsenal Gunners, Sunderland will undoubtedly need to be on point if they're to walk away with a win at the Stadium of Light.
