The Spanish Super Cup Match between Barcelona and Atletico ended uncerimoniously as each team failed to score during the game's entirety. Both teams proved evenly matched defensively and equally frustrated offensively. Messi and Neymar both failed to deliver despite their star power, resulting in a relatively boring match with a fair amount of chances to score, each time resulting in disappointment.

The first 45 was very quiet for both sides, with Messi being pummpled by Atletico's defenses every time he thought he had a shot -- not that there was much of a response other than that from Atletico. After fouling the star Argentinian multiple times, Atletico got some punishment from the refs, but nothing to really cut down on the team's game. While the teams grappled back and forth, struggling to penetrate the solid defenses, the first 45 came to an end with niether team having anything to show for it.

The final 45 was much of the same, with a handful of momentous events cut between chances. In minute 80, Filipe was given the red card and sent of the field by referees. Barcelona got an opportunity to score not more than 10 minutes later, when refs awarded the squad with a penalty kick at minute 88 of play. Messi failed to deliver as he hit the bar on his shot. The game just got crazier, though it continued to lack in goals, as Arda Turan was given a red card and sent off the field during extra time. Despite the chaos and tough physical battles -- some resulting in punishment -- the game continued without a score, leading Barcelona to win on away goals.
