Former President Barack Obama’s ‘epic’ 60th birthday bash is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
While the evening truly came alive at Obama’s plush Martha's Vineyard home in Massachusetts, leaked pictures from the “scaled back” event revealed how the ex-president and his guest list failed to adhere to the raging pandemic's norms.
Artiste Erykah Badu stunned users by sharing an interesting clip from the weekend party that saw a mask-free Obama in his elements, as he grooved the night away while clutching a microphone in the middle of an elevated dance floor, according to Daily Mail. Badu managed to take a selfie amid a bustling crowd of maskless guests, while the ex-prez partied hard.
Journalist Jack Posobiec expressed his dismay on Twitter about how the high profile "maskless. no-Vaxx mandate", the decadent do was a direct mockery of everything that was being followed by the rest of the people, Post Millennial reported.
Despite there being an alleged cut-down on the guests, in keeping with the precautionary health guidelines of the highly infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus, huge tents, and dance floors welcomed a massive turnout of at least about 300 to 400 powerful guests in private jets and helicopters.
Singer H.E.R.—who goes by the real name Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson— flouted party norms and posted a snap on Instagram and Twitter of her with her manager Jeanine McClean and the Obamas on Sunday. The post was deleted hours later.
Rapper Trap Beckham and manager TJ Chapman sent followers into a tizzy after the latter shared secret snaps from the birthday bash on Instagram stories. These were soon deleted due to the event's photography ban norms. The recording artist and his manager were seen smoking cannabis in the party, which is legal in Massachusetts.
The highly controversial snaps gave an insight into the wild bash— gold napkins, masks, and backstage passes were emblazoned with 44X60, a reference to the 44th president’s 60th birthday, and bathroom amenities included antiperspirant wipes, a lint roller, and Advil, the New York Post reported.
Interestingly enough, despite Questlove being enlisted to coordinate a meat-free menu, leaked snaps showed the availability of steak, chicken, and shrimp with rice, greens, and potatoes on the side, for guests.
Republican Party consultant Ryan James Girdusky rebuked the insensitivity displayed at Obama’s shindig, and chided the “liberal elitists” at the former president’s $12 million mansion, further citing how the celebrations mirror hypocrisy.
According to the New York Post, John Legend, who arrived with wife Chrissy Teigen on Friday, was roped in to croon away, while a performance by "The Roots" drummer Questlove was also planned. Some of the popular names in the star-studded guest list included Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Steven Spielberg, ex-NBA star Dwyane Wade and actress wife Gabrielle Union, Stephen Colbert, Bradley Cooper, Eddie Vedder and Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
