Following an attempt to sell his newborn grandson on Facebook, Feroz Khan was arrested by police in India, according to the International Business Times.

The 47-year-old Khan reportedly set up the transaction of selling his newborn grandson through the popular social networking site Facebook. Khan was in contact with a local businessman interested in purchasing the child and he even enlisted the assistance of two hospital workers to kidnap the child just after he was born.

"All three people who conspired to sell the child have been arrested and we will be interrogating the businessman who paid the money to buy the baby," senior police officer Satish Malhotra said in a statement issued to the Indian Express.

The two individuals helping Khan, nurse Sunita Rani and another individual referred to as Gurpreet, became involved because a friend of Gurpreet on Facebook had a wife with fertility problems.

As United Press International reports, upon stepping in to prevent the sale of the baby, police rescued the child from Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi and safely returned him to his mother Noori. It was Noori who initially reported her father's intentions to local police.

Khan reportedly attempted to sell his newborn grandson to support his drug habits.

Nurse Sunita Rani was carrying Rs 20,500 or what equates to a little more than $378. Khan reportedly had Rs 24,000 on him, slightly over $443. While planning to sell the child, the individuals agreed on a price of Rs 45,000 or $831.67.

All three have already appeared in court and if found guilty, the jail sentence could be as long as seven years.
