Georgia police found a 14-year-old teen, who was abducted during a home invasion, safe after two days of searching. Clayton County Police Chief Gregory Porter said Ayvani Hope Perez was discovered in good health Wednesday and that two suspects are now in custody. Two armed men kidnapped the teen early Tuesday morning from her home in an Atlanta suburb, and the FBI later became involved in her search. Police did not reveal much detail about the case as it is still under investigation. "This is a good day for the Perez family, but more importantly for Ayvani. She is safe," Porter said.
The suspects were originally described as two black men wearing dark clothing. The suspects pried the back door of the home at 2:15 a.m. The girl's mother said she attempted to hide her two children, but were discovered by the suspects who demanded money and jewelery before abducting Perez. One suspect shot the family dog, who survived the injury. Police said the suspects took Perez from her home when her family was unable to meet their demands. Other potential motives for her abduction have not yet been determined.
The two men police have in custody are Juan Alberto Contreras-Rodriguez, 40, who is being held on immigration-related charges, and Wildrego Jackson, 29 of Atlanta, being held on conspiracy to kidnap. The men involved in the home invasaion remain at large. Perez was held in the greater Atlanta metro area and recovered in an area just outside of Conyers, Georgia. Those who may have any information about the men who broke into the home and kidnapped the girl are asked to call the Clayton County Police Department at 678-610-4781.
