Having used the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine for two decades, the Audi A8 flagship luxury sedan will finally retire the old powerplant for the 2013 model year.
Now, the torch has been passed onto the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, which is currently found in the Audi S6 and S7 models. Producing 420 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque, the performance figures are a 46 hp and 78 lb.-ft. of torque increase over the outgoing 4.2-liter engine.
The 6.3-liter W12 engine remains as the range-topping engine while the new for 2013 supercharged 3.0-liter V6 anchors the bottom of the range. All Audi A8 engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and receive Quattro as standard.
The new 4.0T Audi A8 will start at $80,900.
