We mentioned on Thursday that Wit Studios may be working on a special spin-off OVA featuring Levi as the main character. According to reports, the "Attack on Titan: No Regrets, Birth of Levi" release date may coincide with the "Attack on Titan" Volume 15 manga, which drops December 2014. Meanwhile, two live-action "Attack On Titan" movies are in the works as well.
While there is no shortage of AOT content, what fans really want to see is "Attack on Titan" Season 2. Initial rumors claimed the new season would return on July 26. However, the rumor was a hoax. According to iDigitalTimes, Wit Studios has not even begun working on Season 2 yet.
"The truth is, there's a good reason why Wit Studios isn't working on the 'Attack on Titan' season 2 premiere just yet," iDigitalTimes explained. "Even after just one series, the show has covered a pretty substantial portion of the manga-a little more than half of it, in fact. The key words there are 'a little more.' It stands to reason that the second series will cover just about as much ground as the first series. And that means, if it came out right now, the anime would pass the material in the books."
So there you have it-- the anime is still waiting on the manga to unfold. According to iDigitalTimes, "Attack on Titan" Season 1 covered Volume 1 through half of Volume 9. As of now, we are still awaiting the release of 14 and 15, which are expected to come out sometime at the end of 2014. We foresee "Attack on Titan" Season 2 production to begin by then.
If we set a rough frame of reference around the production time, it is highly probably that the "Attack on Titan" Season 2 release date will be slated this time next year. The prediction also receives further support from JapNation AniManga's interview with a Wit Studios source, who suggested August 2015 to be a reasonable release date for "Attack on Titan" Season 2. However, JapNation AniManga is also the same outlet responsible for spinning the July 26 release date hoax, so take their latest story with a grain of salt. That said, If we learn Wit Studios will wait until Volume 16 before starting Season 2, we will probably lose our minds.
Despite the frustrating back and forth between "Attack on Titan" Season 2 rumors and hoaxes, it's important to understand that the reason why Season 2 is taking so long is not because they show no consideration for the fans, but because the studio is only waiting for the manga to unfold and evolve.
