Aston Martin makes a splash after its Facebook page gained its 1 millionth fan last November. Returning their thanks to the fans, Aston Martin launched a clever campaign that gave the fans the power to style their very own one-off DB9. Fans chose everything from which model to start with to what sort of leather and matching stitching to apply. Finalizing the input, Aston Martin has finally unveiled the finished result -- behold, the Aston Martin DB9 1M.

Featuring a dark blue paintwork accented with a white "aero" graphic, the DB9 1M is missing the subtle elegance that most of the Aston Martins possess. However, it's great to see a carmaker try new things and have fun with their products.

While Aston is the latest to embrace its internet social community, it certainly isn't the first. Back in early 2011, Porsche offered a grand "thank you" to their 1 million Facebook Fans. Applying a unique paint scheme featuring the many names of its friends on Facebook, the special one-off Porsche GT3 R Hybrid helped to pioneer a form of social interaction between a brand and its following. Before long, Porsche acquires 2 million fans on Facebook and creates a whole new mural on a Cayman sports car to thank its fans.

The elite Italian automaker Ferrari followed suit, celebrating its 8 millionth fan on Facebook by creating a wild video featuring a Ferrari 458 Italia whipping up the largest series of wide burnouts and donuts. Once finished, we see that the Ferrari has laid down rubber that wrote out "8000000."

Other than General Motors pulling ads from Facebook, other automakers seem to have really embraced the new medium that is social media. Bear in mind, GM pulled its ads from the Super Bowl as well.
