Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal Gunners are off to a solid start in the Barclays Premier League. Currently pacing the 20-team league with a total of 25 points, Arsenal has certainly been on point for most of the season as they look to improve upon last season's fourth place finish in the competitive BPL. Despite the fast start in league play and continued success in the UEFA Champions League, fans around the Emirates are wondering if the club has any plans to improve the roster during the upcoming January transfer window. The acquisition of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid during the summer transfer period has undoubtedly been key thus far, leaving supporters thirsting more additional high-profile moves.
According to multiple sources, Arsenal has shown interesting in landing current Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, who played at the Emirates from 2006 through 2012. The 26-year-old was a key member of Arsenal's run to the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions League final - where they fell to Barcelona - but after finding early success at Camp Nou, Song may not be leaning in the same direction. Helping Barca claim the 2012-2013 La Liga championship and Supercopa de Espana crown, Song appears happy with the Catalan club, even noting recently that he doesn't want to interrupt the current success he's enjoying. He does however, still wish the best to those at his former Premier League home.
"I was very happy to be at Arsenal, I spent seven years there," Song said recently. "But at the moment I'm not looking that way. I am very happy here. I have four years left on my contract. I don't know what will happen in four years' time when I finish here. But today I am very happy here. When I left Arsenal two years ago I know they had very good players and every season there was just one thing missing. I think this year with the players that have come in, I think they have started very well."
"They are strong in the league and I've watched every game," he continued. "I hope this season they will do very well, hopefully they don't get any players injured because when key players are injured it becomes very difficult for them. But this season hopefully, they will win the league, for me I would love to see them win something."
Song and Barcelona currently pace the La Liga standings with 37 points through 13 matches. The club's next match will come no November 23 at home against league rival Granada.
