Gonzalo Higuain has been linked to a possible Arsenal move in recent weeks and now that the official transfer season is in full swing, it looks as though the Real Madrid star is close to joining the English Premier League club.

According to ESPN FC, the striker could soon travel to London to finalize a £23 million move to the English club. In 28 league appearances last season with Madrid, the 25-year-old native of Brest, France recorded 16 goals and 6 assists as he remains one of the top offensive weapons in the sport.

With the deal expected to break a financial transfer record for Arsenal, Higuain's father -- former Argentine footballer Jorge Higuain - told The Independent that his son has been granted permission by Madrid to speak with Arsenal and that the offer from the EPL club is substantial.

"We have been given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal," Jorge said. "I will luckily be able to see my son in the Premier League soon. There isn't anything signed yet, but the negotiations are very advanced. We haven't spoken about the contract yet. Arsenal have made a great offer, in the same was as Juventus."

Juventus elected to ink Carlos Tevez since his price tag was lower then that of Higuain and it is expected that the pending deal for Higuain could see the goal-scorer receive £100,000 a week for three years.

Playing the last seven years for a Real Madrid team that advanced to the 2012-2013 UEFA Champions League semifinals, Higuain has been a remarkable player. Notching 107 goals in 187 appearances while guiding the Spanish club to La Liga titles in 2007, 2008 and 2012, Higuain will certainly be missed if he does in fact depart Real Madrid.

"It has been seven years at Real Madrid and I need a change," he said following Real's final game of the recent season against Osasuna. This is a decision that I have taken calmly, it is not a snap decision. No one has gifted me anything: I have always had to fight. I came here for €12m and they will sell me for a lot more. I want to go where they show they really want me."

With a substantial offer on the table from Arsenal and the players' seemingly strong desire to join the English Premier League squad, the move from Spain to London appears to be a certainty.
