"Arrow" returns with Episode 2 of Season 5 on Wednesday night when "League of Assassins" airs at 8pm EST/7pm Central on the CW. Dylan Neal will make his first appearance of a four-episode commitment on the show as the villainous Dr. Anthony Ivo, who will show up to greet Sara Lance just as she's rescued from the Queen's Gambit and climbs aboard the "Amazo" freighter. Red flags will go up immediately when she notes the prisoners who he's keeping in cells as subjects for his research, which he claims will "save the human race". The CW's press release about Wednesday night's episode had this to say about it: "While Oliver (Stephen Amell) tends to the Canary's (Caity Lotz) wounds, he tries to get her to talk about where she came from but she refuses. However, after Oliver and the Canary are attacked at the Queen mansion by a trained killer from the League of Assassins, she confesses to how she's connected with the nefarious group ... Meanwhile with Moira (Susanna Thompson) facing multiple counts of murder and conspiracy for her part in the destruction of The Glades, the Assistant District Attorney (guest star Dylan Bruce) offers her a choice -- plead guilty now and avoid the death penalty or take your chances in court. Thea (Willa Holland) begs her mother to fight for her life but Moira seems resolute about taking the offer. Meanwhile, Oliver is furious with Laurel (Katie Cassidy) for joining the prosecution's team on his mother's case."
Stephen Arnell, who plays the Green Arrow, told TV Guide that no one was more surprised by last week's reveal -- that the masked Canary was actually Sara Lance -- than his character. "It was the first time in the present day that Oliver was thrown a curveball that he wasn't expecting," Amell said. "He was absolutely positive that Sara Lance was dead. It's the first time that we've really seen Oliver thrown for a loop. As a result, he's vulnerable, which was an exciting thing for me in the episode and going forward. He has no way of dealing with Sara Lance. He has no plan.
