Brigadier General Bryan T. Roberts, commanding officer of a South Carolina army base, has been suspended after an alleged fight he had with a woman who appeared to be his mistress, the Daily Mail reported.
A statement from Army Training and Doctrine Command stated that he was suspended Tuesday due to misconduct possibly pertaining to adultery. It is not believed that sexual abuse was involved.
Roberts has been in charge of Fort Jackson, a base of 60,000 -- the largest of five basic training centers the Army uses -- since 2012 and has nearly 30 years of military experience under his belt.
Brig. Gen. Peggy C. Combs is expected to serve as Roberts' replacement during his suspension, according to ABC News.
The decision to suspend Roberts came after the Army's Criminal Investigation Command began investigating the incident and found sufficient enough evidence to suspend him, according to spokesman Harvey Perritt.
"[The] Army holds all soldiers regardless of rank or position accountable for their actions," Perritt said of the suspension of the one-star general.
Investigators of the case are currently gathering information and questioning witnesses. This process could last anywhere from weeks to months.
He could be relieved of his post if the investigation finds conclusive evidence of misconduct.
