While in custody children are expected to be protected under the hands of the law even though they are criminals. With the rise of sexual assault cases in th United States and beyond, the issue has gone from bad to worse. It is niw being reported that a youth correctional officer has now been taken into custody for the unthinkable.
According to FOX 31 Denver, 25-year-old Armando Torres has been charged with sexual assault on a child and two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Torres who was a former emloyee at the Gilliam Youth Detention Center has been charged with sexually assaulting two juvenile females who were in custody, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
It is alleged that while on the job, Torres had sexual contact with two juvenile females in separate incidents. The site reports that the first incident allegedly occurred in April, and two subsequent incidents occurred in November and December, the district attorney’s office said.
Torres was taken into cutsody on December 11, charged and booked. He is currently out on $50,000 bond. Placed on leave, his employment depends on the outcome of the case. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 11, 2017. There is no word on if the victims who identities are not being released due to their age, will have to be present for the upcoming court date.
While there is no word on Torres accepting any plea deals, he is reportedly prepared to fight the case. There is a chance that the allegations are not true, but if they are, the penalty for the crime will be harsh. Taking advantage of juveniles while in custody is a blatant abuse of power.
Parents of the two alleged victims have not come forward at this time.
