An Arizona father faces multiple charges, including felony assault and robbery, after allegedly attacking two children riding electric bicycles in Scottsdale.
Witnesses to the Friday afternoon incident told police that 52-year-old Richard Davidson exited his Toyota RAV4 where his son waited, assaulted two children on e-bikes, took their cellphones, then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.
Davidson told police that children on e-bikes were driving in and out of traffic on the road, so he "took care of it," AZ Family reported. Admitting he didn't like kids riding e-bikes, Davidson unapologetically stated that he took the children's phones to contact their parents, according to court documents.
Video footage reportedly shows Davidson throwing an e-bike from the road, chasing a child until they fell, and forcibly taking their phone. Davidson then allegedly forced another child off a moving bike, pinned them to the ground, and took their phone as well.
Additional video evidence is said to show Davidson steering his vehicle toward a child on an e-bike before driving away. At this time, authorities have not made any of the footage public.
Davidson expressed no remorse for his actions and told police he had previously moved away from Scottsdale because of e-bike riders. He is being held in the Maricopa County jail on a $35,000 bond.
