Internet users are mourning the annual day of tomfoolery as they lament April Fools' Day has lost its charm against the backdrop of the state of the world.

The first day of April is typically reserved for corporations and media personalities to make cheap jokes on social media while tricksters at home swap sugar with salt. This year, however, the internet is not celebrating for a slew of reasons.

One user called for it to be canceled since "ain't no prank topping reality."

Another added the quirky holiday "lost its charm once reality itself became a nightmarish farce."

Some blamed the holiday's downfall on the Trump administration, criticizing policies and the effects they have had on Americans' lives.

"April Fool's Day has lost its true charm ever since Trump took office," one X user joked.

"April fools has been canceled due to the fact that the fools are now in charge," @YourAnonNews shared.

"'The Trump administration should make April Fools Day a national holiday because it so accurately represents who they are.' - James Carville 😂😂😂," an X user shared, quoting the U.S. political consultant.

"April fools is cancelled this year because there's no bigger joke than the current state of America," another user affirmed.

Social media users in the U.K. also took a stab at their government, with one user writing, "Every day is April Fool's Day in this gaff," accompanied by a cartoon of the U.K. Parliament filled with clowns.

Others lamented the state of the world, including the ongoing war in Gaza.

"Wanna hear an April Fools joke? International law," @DrKarimWafa wrote.

Other users couldn't help but share how "quiet" the internet had become.

"It's April Fool's day and everyone is quiet fore the first time. Nothing has been funny for a while it seems 😂," one user remarked.

"Aint seen a single April fools joke yet, we all sick of everything huh," another joked.

While others attempted to stop anyone from even attempting to make a joke.

"Please no April fools. Our lives are a big enough joke," another added.
