Wednesday Apple quietly released new cheaper iMac's. The Cupertino-based company lowered the new all-in-one machine by $200 making the entry cost for iMac's $1,099. Here is five changes you need to know about the new low-cost iMac.
1. users will downgrade from a faster quad-core chip to a dual-core CPU. RAM stays the same, but hard drive space is cut in half from 1-terabyte on the $1,299 model. Graphics are also downgraded from Intel's Iris Pro integrated solution to Intel HD Graphics 5000.
2. Users have the ability to upgrade to a 1-terabyte Serial ATA drive for $50 more, a 1-terabyte Fusion Drive for $250, or a 256-gigabyte flash drive for $250. However, the 1.4-gigahertz processor and the 8 gigabytes of RAM cannot be upgraded.
3. The $1,099 iMac still sports a 1920x1080-pixel LED-backlit display along with the suite of apps that comes with every Mac computer, which includes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
4. The new iMac sports a slower 1.4GHz dual-core Intel i5 processor found in the MacBook Air. Previously the processor was a faster 2.7GHz quad-core Intel i5. Doing the basics on the $1,099 model will be a breeze just don't expect this desktop to be powerful enough to edit full-length multimedia.
The new iMac features the same thin design as all other current iMacs, it features 802.11ac Wi-Fi, two Thunderbolt ports, and four USB 3.0 ports.
