Apple today announced that they would start rolling out CarPlay iOS vehicle integration with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo on board as the first launch partners this week. Immediately following the announcement Volvo released their own press release including a new video briefly showing off CarPlay in action. While Volvo’s press release states the initial implementation of CarPlay will require wired connection using the iPhone’s lightning connector, Wi-Fi connectivity will be “coming in the near future.”
A handful of the top car companies are already involved and expecting to incorporate the new Apple service in vehicles in the near future. These companies include: BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Kia, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and many more. The CarPlay service for will be compatible with only Apple’s iPhone 5 lineup, so the 5s 5c and iPhone 5 are devices that will work with CarPlay.
While it is never safe to use your phone and drive, Apple’s CarPlay is a smarter and safer way for users to use their devices in the car. Users can control their device with a word, touch or twist. CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios and also works with your car’s controls.
Some of the highlighted features includes Maps, Messaging, Phone, Music and more! The simplicity of Apple’s Maps App will be directly on your dash while you can make calls, message and play or create playlist with your playlist or iTunes Radio. Other apps such as Spotify, iHeartRadio, Beats Radio and Stitcher will all be compatible with CarPlay by Apple.
