With another week of college football in the books, the Associated Press recently updated its version of the 2013-2014 rankings. Alabama has been in the top spot since the start of the season and thanks to a bigtime 31-6 victory against an overmatched Colorado State team, quarterback A.J. McCarron and the Crimson Tide maintained their place atop the college football world. Earning 56 of 60 votes, head coach Nick Saban and Alabama appear poised for another championship run but as the early standings indicate, there are numerous teams capable of playing their way into the National Championship contest at the end of the season.
The Oregon Ducks received 4 first place votes and as they sit at No. 2, the possibility of having one of the nation's best offenses against one of the best defenses play for a title is certainly enticing since the Ducks and Tide are strong in those respective categories. Rounding out the Top 5 after victories of their own were Clemson, Ohio State and Stanford. With plenty of football left to be played, each team in the current version of the AP's top 5 is certainly capable of competing for a spot in the National title game but with tough match-ups on the horizon, every team still in the mix knows they'll have to take each game one play at a time.
