Outgoing Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, D-Los Angeles, is reported to be on dire financial straits, despite being the highest paid city executive in the United States. Villaraigosa, born Antonio Villar, Jr., has been paid $232,735 per year throughout his two terms as mayor of the City of Angels. He will soon forfeit his residence at the taxpayer-funded Getty House to Mayor-Elect Eric Garcetti, D-Los Angeles.

Harvey Englander, a Los Angeles lobbyist told LA Weekly bluntly that Villaraigosa "doesn't have a car to drive," citing that taxpayers have footed the bill for much of his travels over his eight years in office. KCBS-2 in southern California posted an image of Villaraigosa seated on a subway train to illustrate the matter. During his term, Villaraigosa has been seen holding front row seats at Los Angeles Lakers NBA games in addition to various other publicly-funded mayoral perks.
"His friends are so concerned because he's lived so flamboyantly and spent...so much of other people's money on a...costly lifestyle," said Jill Stewart of LA Weekly. The CBS affiliate reported that Villaraigosa grossed over $1.6 million as mayor, and now stands to be somewhat destitute.
"He is asking anyone and everyone for jobs..." said Stewart. According to LA Weekly, Villaraigosa spotted FOX News journalist Bill O'Reilly at an Oscars event and reportedly asked whether there would be a future home for him at the network.
Villaraigosa also reportedly is eyeing possible jobs on Wall Street and in liberal think tanks as well as reportedly hoping at one point to be considered to replace President Barack Obama's outgoing secretary of transportation, former Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Ill. Obama instead nominated Mayor Anthony R. Foxx, D-Charlotte, for the position on April 29.
