A 12-year-old boy has been left brain damaged after he was beaten by his classmates in Amozoc, Puebla. Antoio de Jesus cannot recognize his mother, confuses his relatives and has lost mobility in half his body after he was savagely beaten by his classmates. The boy's mother, María de Jesús Monje Tapia is demanding justice for her son. She told El Universal that "I went to the school and told the director that the older kids were abusing him ... but he just washed his hands and ignored me."
Antonio De Jesus was attacked on Oct. 28. He tried to run from his assailants, but they followed him, and a few blocks from the Galileo Galilei High-School, he was savagely beaten. When he came home, he tried to hide the fact that he had been bullied. However, the day after the attack the 12-year-old collapsed and was taken to hospital. After several days in a coma, the boy underwent surgery to have part of his brain removed as it was too swollen. The damage to Antonio's brain is irreperable.
Antono De Jesus' mother has also spoken about the financial difficulty faced by the family following medical bills and the cost of travelling to and from Mexico City where he was hospitalized. Meanwhile, Mexico's Public Education Secretary (SEP) has announced Galileo Galilei's principal, Margarito Emilio Basilio Gómez, has been dismissed pending further investigations.
