Tampa Bay Bucs' Antonio Brown said he is holding on to several opportunities to play again in the NFL. The 33-year-old wide receiver revealed he is currently in contact with some organizations.
In an interview with Complex Thursday, Brown seemed to be in a rather good mood as he cracked jokes and was grateful and excited yet had a peaceful vibe. A world of difference from his demeanor weeks prior when he did the infamous jersey strip down and walked off the field mid-game against the New York Jets on Jan. 2. The much-talked-about episode resulted in a break-up with the Tampa Bucs as head coach Bruce Arians released him from the team.
Since parting ways with the Bucs, the All-Pro wide receiver has been seen immersing himself in making music with recent collaborations with Kanye West and building his rap career. However, Brown was quick to say that his football career is still on the top of his head and will continue to be so. “I’m a football player, man. I’m a professional athlete. Let’s not get that twisted. That’s my main thing,” he said.
From there, Brown revealed he has been in contact with a couple of teams who have called on him to play but did not specify who these teams were. He said this definitely could see him back in the playing field in time with another team during the conference championship game or the Super Bowl.
When asked about how things ended between him and Tampa, Brown came to a realization that he could have handled things better and controlled his emotions. However, he still defended his actions. “It’s not a good feeling with the way it ended, but I just feel good that I represented myself the right way,” he said, citing how he had gone through the mats to put his health on the line to play but ended up being dismissed.
“You’re sacrificing your health to play with someone, and they don’t really respect that, so to me, that was a smack in the face.” “I’m just glad I did what my heart said in the moment. I could have handled it better, but I think you’ve got to stand up for yourself.”
Brown reportedly is still nursing an ankle injury that requires surgery but he said as soon as he is able to get properly stitched up he is looking forward to getting down to a routine to prep himself up for any opportunity to play again.
