Although it’s been a pretty disappointing start for the 2-10 New Orleans Pelicans, who have the worst record in the NBA, there may be some good news in their near future.
Star Power forward Anthony Davis is “hopeful to play” on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers despite back pain, reports CBS Sports. His absence against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday also stemmed from a right quad contusion.
Davis has only missed one game this year, but he has suffered numerous injuries in the past that have caused him to miss games. More than likely, since the Pelicans don’t have a scheduled game on Thursday, there will not be a definitive answer on his playing status until Friday morning. That's a wise decision because it makes the Trail Blazers, who have to face the Houston Rockets on Thursday, have to wait and game-plan for the unknown.
All signs point towards Davis playing, but Head Coach Alvin Gentry hasn’t officially ruled him in or out yet.
Davis is having a fine start to the season averaging 30.5 points per game, the third highest in the NBA behind only DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook. Davis is No. 1 in blocks per game at 2.91, but unfortunately, it just hasn’t equaled to wins on the court for the Pelicans. The Pelicans have only made the playoffs once with Davis since drafting him No. 1 overall in 2012.
