Michael Pena is rumored to be in negotiations to appear in Marvel's latest comic adaptation, "Ant-Man", starring Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd. Pena, who can currently be seen in "American Hustle," has apparently been offered a role and is keen to jump onboard the project as it nears conclusion. Directed by Edgar Wright and written by Wright and Joe Cornish, "Ant-Man" is being produced by Disney and is set for a July 2015 release date.
"Ant-Man" tells the story of Hank Pym and Scott Lang (Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, respectively). Created by Stan Lee in 1962, the comic centers on Pym's discovery of subatomic particles which allow him to shrink to insect size and control ants. Meanwhile Lang, a former criminal and electronic expert, uncovers Pym's powerful technology years later to become the famed superhero. It is unclear what role Pena will play - indeed Marvel have denied the negoatiations, however, a source confirmed that Pena has been cast to The Wrap.
"Ant-Man" will be a departure from many of Marvel's previous cinematic endeavors: Wright has suggested that "Ant-Man" will have a much more camedic tone than previous titles produced by the comic giant. As The Wrap suggests, although 'Pena is best known for dramas such as “Crash,” “World Trade Center” and “End of Watch,” he has displayed comedic chops in ”Observe and Report,” “30 Minutes or Less” and HBO’s “Eastbound & Down.”'
Pena can next be seen on the silve screen as labor hero Cesar Chavez in “Chavez” and will later film alonside Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf in David Ayer’s untitled war movie.
